STS109-E-5883 (9 March 2002) --- The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) distances itself from the Space Shuttle Columbia following its release on March 9, 2002. Considering its original deployment in 1990 and three previous servicing missions, this marked the fifth time a shuttle has bade farewell to the giant telescope.
