Ingenuity Spots Raised Ridges During Ninth Flight

NASA's Ingenuity Mars Helicopter spotted this location, nicknamed "Raised Ridges," during its ninth flight, on July 5, 2021, the 133rd Martian day, or sol, of the mission. Scientists are hoping to visit Raised Ridges with the Perseverance rover in the future. A portion of the helicopter's landing gear can be seen at top left, and its shadow is visible bottom center. A key objective for Perseverance's mission on Mars is astrobiology, including the search for signs of ancient microbial life. The rover will characterize the planet's geology and past climate, pave the way for human exploration of the Red Planet, and be the first mission to collect and cache Martian rock and regolith (broken rock — NASA JPL · 2021.
